Privacy Policy
Dika Equity and Development Foundation (DEDF) respects your privacy and is committed to handling personal information responsibly. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect personal information when you visit www.dikafoundation.org, contact us through our website, or subscribe to our newsletter.
We aim to handle personal information in accordance with applicable data protection laws, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Depending on how you interact with our website, we may collect:
- Contact-form information: your name, email address, optional phone number and message.
- Newsletter information: your email address and, if requested, your name and subscription preferences.
- Technical information: information such as your IP address, browser type, device information and server logs that may be generated when you visit the website for security, troubleshooting and reliable operation.
Please do not include sensitive personal information in contact-form messages unless it is necessary and DEDF has provided an appropriate, secure process for handling it.
We may use your information to:
- Respond to questions, enquiries and partnership proposals.
- Communicate with people who express interest in DEDF’s work.
- Send newsletters and updates to people who subscribe.
- Manage newsletter subscriptions, including unsubscribe requests.
- Maintain website security, diagnose technical problems and prevent misuse.
- Meet applicable legal and record-keeping obligations.
We will not use your information for purposes incompatible with those explained in this Policy without an appropriate lawful basis.
Where required, DEDF will rely on an appropriate lawful basis for processing personal information. Depending on the circumstances, this may include your consent, steps requested by you before entering into a relationship, legitimate interests pursued in a lawful and proportionate manner, or compliance with a legal obligation.
Newsletter subscriptions will be based on an appropriate subscription and consent process. You may unsubscribe at any time.
If you subscribe to the DEDF newsletter, we will use the information you provide to send the updates you requested.
Each newsletter should provide a clear way to unsubscribe. Once you unsubscribe, DEDF will stop sending you routine newsletter communications, except for any limited processing necessary to record and respect your preference.
DEDF will not add people to the newsletter simply because they submitted a contact-form enquiry, unless they separately subscribe or another lawful basis applies.
DEDF does not currently use website analytics or marketing tracking tools, based on the website configuration identified for this Policy.
The website and its hosting infrastructure may nevertheless generate essential technical logs needed for security, troubleshooting and service delivery. These are different from advertising or behavioural tracking.
If DEDF introduces analytics, advertising pixels or other non-essential tracking technologies in the future, this Policy and any required consent controls will be updated before those tools are used.
DEDF does not sell personal information.
We may share information with service providers where necessary to operate the website, process enquiries, deliver newsletters, maintain security or provide technical support. These providers may process information on DEDF’s behalf under applicable contractual and data protection arrangements.
We may also disclose information where required by law or where a lawful disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety or security.
DEDF will retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to applicable legal obligations and legitimate record-keeping needs.
- Routine contact-form enquiries: retained for up to 12 months after the last meaningful communication.
- Ongoing partnerships & legal obligations: retained for longer where justified.
- Newsletter information: retained while a subscription remains active. After an unsubscribe request, DEDF may retain the minimum information necessary to record and respect that request.
- Secure disposal: information that is no longer required will be securely deleted or anonymised, where appropriate.
DEDF will take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction.
No website or electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure. DEDF will work to manage risks and respond appropriately to security incidents in line with applicable requirements.
Subject to applicable law and the circumstances of the processing, you may have the right to:
- Request access to personal information DEDF holds about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion or restriction of processing where applicable.
- Object to certain processing activities.
- Withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.
- Request a copy of your information where a right to portability applies.
- Raise a complaint with the relevant data protection authority.

Our website may link to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. DEDF encourages you to review those policies before providing personal information to them.
The DEDF website is not intended to collect children’s personal information without appropriate safeguards. If a DEDF programme or activity involves children, additional safeguards and appropriate consent or authorisation procedures must be established for that activity.
DEDF may update this Policy when its practices, website services or legal obligations change. The revised version will be published on this page with an updated revision date.
